HEROES in ACTION
The firefighters of Ladder Company 6 called
Josephine Harris their âguardian angel.â
They knew that if they had been anywhere
else in the building or just outside it, the
building would have fallen on top of them.
As they rushed down the stairs, they found
Josephine Harris. She had climbed down at least
50 flights of stairs and could not go on. The
firefighters helped her. When they got near the
bottom, the north tower crumbled. Only the
small bit of twisted stairwell around them was left
standing, protecting them from being crushed.
